So, finally I come again to what to write here. I was now 25.12. to 29.12. with
Christmas this year was very nice, though not as Christmassy as usually.
And so the year 2007, I can only say that it has given my life a very pleasant break in a different direction.
1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
leave everything I had behind (well, not everything ... my rats had to come with me, of course
Also, I lived the entire year almost completely sugar- free (there were two Pizza Delivery Incidents and one Pommes Speziale Moment, though
Finally, I managed to talk to some people about stuff I didn't dare to talk about earlier, like telling my mom about how I felt during my childhood and youth or telling her about my problems, talking to my ex girlfriend Louise about how she made me feel and telling my sister that I needed more time alone when I'm in Essen. (They all responded really well, by the way.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any resolutions last year but for next year I want to try and do what I want to despite the reactions or expectations of others. Yeah.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Nope. Though I would really like that.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully, nobody did.
5. What countries did you visit?
I stayed in Germany, as usual, but I did see a lot of that this year.
6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
I didn't really lack it last year compared to the years before, but I hope for more being-myself-ness next year.
7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
That's kinda hard to tell... I can't really choose one, so I'll take them all:
17th of August : that's the day I first really met Jule (i.e. I really saw her... live... you know
1st of September : The day before my birthday; I was at Jule's and she gave me some really personal presents; I had to cry a lot, because it was all so warm and homey, but also because I had to leave again that afternoon.
2nd of September : Yes, my birthday; it really made me think a lot. This is the day I first thought about leaving Louise, since she called for, like, a minute or two and didn't even send me a birthday card or something (let alone a present
22nd of September : The day Jule and I finally became a couple.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
all of the above.
No, really, I couldn't say. It's just... the life I have now, that is the biggest achievement, not only of this year but of my life. And it is still getting better!
9. What was your biggest failure?
I guess that's this semester at Tübingen University. Boy, did I mess that up!
And I lost a lot of Scheins due to the fact that I don't dare ask for them. That's a real problem but I am working on that.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Nope, all healthy this year.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
the tickets to Neumünster. Each and every one.
The Nintendo DS is cool, too.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My mother's. Not only did she support me on eversy step of the way (even moving out after I just moved in!) but she also decided to finally leave her husband, Uli, ASAP. That's a huge achievement!
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Louise's. She totally didn't accept that I wanted to break up while she was away, although SHE was having an affair at the time. I mean, WTF?!
14. Where did most of your money go?
to the DB; "Sank Yoo vor trevellinggg vizz Deutsche Bann" ... "Sehr verehrte Fahrkarten... äh- Fahrgäste"... "Inna fyoo minnitts ve shalll arrive Kollong." (that was supposed to mean "Cologne".
Boy, I spent about 550 € for tickets.
Well, that makes it only the second most expensive "thing" this year. Moving up here, I had to pay about 700 €. Oh my, if it wasn't for Jule, I'd be rich...
(only joking!!!!)
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Moving to Neumünster.
16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
That's hard, there's some of those... I think, "Get to Me" from Train fits the most, for it gave me strength while I was away and made me think of my future with Jule.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Much, much happier, though I had to go through a lot of sadness and despair first.
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner. That's due to my sugar- freeness but it made me walk on thin ice, nonetheless; still, I think I made it out of there, all right.
iii. richer or poorer? Erm... sooooo much poorer.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
I could have startet being myself a lot earlier. I'm a bit angry about that, because...
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
... I worried far too much. I really wanted to work things out with Louise and tried to avoid falling in love with Jule (didn't work too well, though.
No, I definitely need to stop worrying. Really. I'm working on it.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Hopefully more Christmas-y than this year and rather alone with Jule... and after that, I wouldn't say no to family meetings.
21. Did you fall in love in 2007?
I think, I don't need to answer this one.
22. How many one-night stands?
None.
23. What was your favorite TV program?
I didn't watch TV this year.
24. What was the best book you read?
That's difficult. I would say it's "Men at Arms" from Terry Pratchett but "Small Gods" was also really great.
25. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I wouldn't call it a discovery but I didn't know Melissa Etheridge before, which is a pity! And I got to listen to Garbage a lot; I didn't dare do that while I was with Louise. However, Garbage is something I need to be careful with.
26. What did you want and get?
Happiness.
27. What was your favorite film of this year?
Ratatouille. There really wasn't that much choice this year, was there?
28. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Okay, again, in short: my father and sister came to eat some cake (yeah, cake, though I couldn't have any, of course) and I spoke to Jule via ICQ the whole time; in the afternoon, I had to travel back to Rottenburg; I had to kinda tramp there from Stuttgart and was "home" at about 11 p.m. where Jule called me on my cellphone (she did that quite a few times while I was on the train, too). It was rather lonely but it was one of the nicest birthdays I had so far.
29.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Jule. And she did. I was really lucky!
30. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
I finally dared to wear something that wasn't tent- shaped; I am rather ashamed of my body but am feeling a lot better now that I have Jule. So I kinda made something of it and bought new clothes that gave me some shape. Bring it on!
31. What kept you sane?
Knowing that there is always hope. This thought kept me sane my whole life. There is always hope and it always gets better if you really believe it. I swear it works!
32. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Ellen DeGeneres; I didn't know her before but she is great! Though I wouldn't call it "fancy"
33. What political issue stirred you the most?
The Klimagipfel. Yeah, there was a lot of disturbing news but that issue got my full attention. I know I'm a little greeny.
34. Who did you miss?
I missed Jule a lot, though that was a bit ridiculous; we were never apart for more than nine days in a row...
35. Who was the best new person you met?
Let me think... Well, Jule wasn't exactly "new" but I really got to know her much better during the year and saw her the first time in August. So it really does count. And I don't talk about our relationship, either, since I find our friendship (which developed a lot this year and brought us really close) a lot more valuable.
36. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:
Things are really never the way you expect it.
Not only was I surprised about all the reactions and responses I got when I told everyone about Jule and myself (and this story is another point itself; I would never have dreamed that Jule and I would ever become a couple) but also was there Louise's affair with the much older Bekir.
Nope, things are never. never. ever. how you expect them to be.
I like my life. It's awesome. It's like those really crappy TV- sitcoms that make you think: "Oh yeah, that's likely to happen... that's really realistic!" It's actually also a lot like a Disney movie.
I like it.
